Notice period calculator
Find the statutory notice period for a rental or employment contract.
How notice periods work
For a rental contract the tenant's notice is always 3 months (§ 573c BGB); the landlord's grows with the tenancy — 6 months after 5 years, 9 months after 8 years. A clause shortening the tenant's period or extending it beyond the statutory limit is void.
For an employment contract the basic period is 4 weeks to the 15th or month-end (§ 622 (1) BGB); the employer's period lengthens with years of service up to 7 months (§ 622 (2)), and during a probation period it is 2 weeks (§ 622 (3)).
